Arusha National Park
Close to Arusha and Usa River: forest, crater lakes and the slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain.
Arusha National Park is small but varied, protecting montane forest, the Momella lakes, Ngurdoto Crater and the slopes of Mount Meru (4,566 m). Its closeness to Arusha makes it ideal for a day visit at the start or end of a trip.
Wildlife includes giraffe, buffalo, zebra, colobus monkeys and many birds. Walking safaris with an armed ranger and canoeing on the lakes are possible here, as is the multi-day climb of Mount Meru — often used as acclimatisation before Kilimanjaro.
Highlights
- Mount Meru views and climbs
- Black-and-white colobus monkeys
